On the five toll nakas namely Vashi, Airoli, Dahisar, LBS and Mulund, investigations were done on 227 tankers. In this 9 lakh and 150 litre milk was investigated and around 19,250 litre milk was found to be adulterated.
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Shailesh Adhav, the FDA Co-Commissioner (Food) said, said, “Many times milk is adulterated with different things. We had got information that the milk which is being brought in Mumbai is adulterated. We then started stopping all those tankers which were coming since midnight till early morning.”
He added, “On the five toll nakas namely Vashi, Airoli, Dahisar, LBS toll plaza and Mulund, investigations were done on 227 tankers. In this 9 lakh and 150 litres milk was investigated and around 19,250 litres of milk was found to be adulterated.”
Adhav further said, “We will send the sample of milk for further investigation in labs. We have started investigating those who are responsible for these things.”
In the first six months of the year – 3,576 litres of contaminated milk has been destroyed by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Maharashtra. FIRs have been registered against 11 people. 1,433 milk bags have been seized by the FDA in various parts of Mumbai.
- Since January to September 2018, several raids have been conducted at various places in Mumbai. Adulterated milk was seized from Andheri, Khar, Goregaon, and Malad
- Milk bags were seized from the sellers; tankers were also inspected by the FDA officers.
- In all 1,433 samples were collected and were sent for testing.
- In total 3,576 litres of milk was found to be adulterated and contaminated with water.
From January 16 to 22, a special drive was conducted 2,716 litres of milk was seized.
April 1 to July – 100 litres of milk was confiscated.
September 12 – 310 litres of milk was seized from Malad, Goregaon.
September 18- 3 – different areas were raided in Khar, and 450 litres were seized.
