Mumbai’s renowned doc is still missing after 22 hours

Its’ been 22 hours, since, Dr Deepak Amarapurkar, a gastroenterologist attached to Bombay hospital, has gone missing. His colleagues and police are still clueless regarding his whereabouts

Since Tuesday evening, Dr Deepak Amarapurkar, a noted gastroenterologist from Mumbai, who chose to walk on the flooded streets of Mumbai to reach home, is still not traceable. His family, friends, colleagues and state administration are desperately trying to locate him. But, their efforts have not yielded positive results.

Meanwhile, there are lots of messages which are being circulated on social media about Dr Amarapurkar, since, Wednesday morning. To check the authenticity of the messages, Dr Amarapurkar’s colleagues contacted My Medical Mantra. One such message circulated on social media informed “Dr Amarapurkar’s body has been found in Thane area”.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra about a body being found in Thane, Parambir Singh, Thane Police commissioner, said, “There is no information about him. And the information doesn’t appear to be correct.”

When my Medical Mantra spoke to Dr Amarapurkar’s colleague and general physician Dr Gautam Bhansali, from Bombay hospital, he informed, “I have just spoken to officers of Rabodi police station, and the information which is being circulated is wrong.”

Meanwhile, Jay Kumar, additional commissioner of police, central region Mumbai, confirmed “Dr Amarapurkar has been missing since yesterday evening and a complaint has been received by Dadar police station.”

Dr Deepak Amarapurkar, who is a gastroenterologist at Bombay hospital, left around 4:30 in the afternoon, from the hospital to Prabhadevi, where he resides.

Earlier, speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Gautam Bhansali, practicing physician at Bombay hospital had informed, “In the afternoon, he left from the hospital and around 6.30 pm he reached near Deepak cinema, Elphinstone. Due to waterlogging, he asked his driver to get the car at home and started walking towards home. Though, the driver reached home but Dr Amrapurkar was untraceable. He had called his wife around 6.30 pm and informed his whereabouts. And the location from where he is missing, from there, his house is just 15 minutes away.”

He added, “Since yesterday evening, we are in touch with police, municipal and disaster management authorities. We are enquiring about him in all the hospitals. Still, we are clueless. According to police, his umbrella has been found near Deepak Talkies. We are still searching for him.”
