Mumbai’s 13 year old rape victim has delivered a baby boy, on Friday afternoon in Sir JJ group of Hospital’s. Doctors say the baby was delivered through C-section around 12:30 Friday afternoon. The doctors, who performed the surgery, informed My Medical Mantra that both the mother and the baby boy are doing fine.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, doctors attached to Sir JJ group of informed that, the boy is weighing around 1.8 KG, and has been shifted to Neo-Natal Intensive Care unit (NICU) and the girl has been shifted to the ward.
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, gynaecologist Dr Ashok Anand, who performed the C-section said, “The court had ordered for operation on Sept 8th, but the termination procedure was not done. The procedure could have proved life threatening for the girl, so after taking due consent of the girls family, we went ahead and performed the delivery. Though she is young and has delivered a baby, this will not have effect on her life.”
Medical experts in India have been demanding that a few abnormalities should be included as a valid reason for MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) after 20 weeks and it should empower women to make an informed decision on whether they choose to go ahead with a pregnancy or not.
My Medical Mantra had exclusively reported about the case after a leading gynaecologist and social activist Dr Nikhil Datar was visited by a mother on August 09, 2017, whose 13-year-old daughter is 27-weeks pregnant. The victim then had filed a petition in SC, pleading for abortion of her foetus
In May, the SC allowed a 10-year-old rape survivor from Haryana to abort her unborn child in the 21st week of pregnancy. Medical experts in India have been demanding that a few abnormalities should be included as a valid reason for MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) after 20 weeks and empower women to make a decision on whether they choose to go ahead with the pregnancy or not.
Gynaecologist and various association of Gynaecologist have been pressing the demand, that the Union government should raise the medical termination of pregnancy till 24th week. Nikhil Datar, a Mumbai-based doctor had helped the girl in filing a petition to the Supreme Court of India. He has also helped nine other women who faced similar dilemmas in regards to aborting unborn foetuses with due to deformities.
