Mumbai witnesses its 44th organ donation, brain-dead man saves four lives

The deceased patient was a 27-year-old who was declared brain-dead on Thursday, November 22. The family was aware about the concept of organ donation and consented to donate his organised. The organ donation took place at Umrao Wockhardt Hospital in Mira Road


The patient was admitted to the hospital on November 18, 2018 and became brain-dead after four days of being admitted to the hospital. The patient was a resident of Virar.

The family of the deceased youth knew about what organ donation meant and that this noble gesture could help save the lives of others.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Ravi Hirwani, said, “In all, a heart, a liver, and both kidneys were retrieved from the brain-dead patient. The heart and liver were sent to Fortis Hospital. While one kidney was retained by Umrao Wockhardt Hospital, while the other kidney was sent to KEM Hospital.”

The organs were distributed to the respective hospitals done as per ZTCC guidelines.
