Mumbai: Rod pierces his body, he cheats death

Construction was going on in the building in the Nariman Point, Mumbai. So, while working labourer Rajendra Pal fell into the basement pit of a building site. In this accident, the rods pierced through his body. Rajendra was immediately rushed to the GT Hospital. Doctors successfully removed the rods from his body

Rajendra fell into the basement pit of the building while working. Rods were kept in the basement for the construction work. He was stranded in iron bar foundation at the basement level. The rods pierced through his body.  The man was rescued from the iron rods by the help of the locals. Even the Fire Brigade reached the spot and he was taken to GT Hospital.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Prabhat Rahangdale, chief fire officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade said, “We received information from the locals about a man falling into the basement pit of a building site. He was removed by using gas cutter and by FM by lifting manually by the use of a ladder. He was immediately admitted to the GT Hospital with harming his vital organs.”

As per the information from the Fire Brigade, the accident took place on Friday evening while Rajendra was working.

Dr Mukund Tayde, medical superintendent of the GT Hospital said, “On Friday evening, Rajendra was brought to the hospital around 8:45 pm. Two iron  rods pierced through his chest and stomach. His CT scan revealed that his liver was injured. We removed the rod from his abdomen. After which, his liver injury was treated. Then, the rod was removed from his chest. Though, the rod pierced through his body. But, there was no injury to his lungs. The surgery went on for two hours. Rajendra’s condition is not serious now. He will be admitted in the hospital for some days. To make sure that bleeding doesn’t occur due to the injuries.”
