On November 8, Mumbai saw its second successful inter-state heart transplant. The donor’s heart was transported from Subash hospital, Indore, to Fortis hospital in Mulund in record two hours.
The surgery, carried out by a team of doctors at Fortis, saved life of a 46-year-old man from Alibaug, Raigad. The recipient was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy (end-stage heart disease) and was on waiting list since the past two months.
The donation became possible when a 45-year-old man was declared brain dead following a road accident.
This is the 35th heart transplant of the city since the first transplant took place in August 2015.
