But have you ever taken a look at your pet? How does it look like? Fat or fit?

If we don’t pay attention to this, then even they stand the chance to develop obesity. But, your pets especially dogs too, can suffer from obesity like humans.

Wrong dietary habits and lack of exercise are the main reasons behind obesity-related issues among the dogs.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Prof Dr Santosh Tripathy, attached with Parel’s Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals, said, “Around 30 per cent of the dogs, who are brought to the hospital for treatment are obese. Wrong dietary habits, lack of exercise are the main reasons for this. Many times, people give them what humans eat such as ice-cream or rice. Owing to which, the digestive systems among the pet doesn’t function in the right manner.”

Dr Tripathy further added, “Bariatric surgery is an option for the obese dogs. In the past 4 to 5 years, we have performed bariatric surgery on 16 obese dogs.”
