Mumbai doctor bags ‘Honoris Causa honour’ for excellence in gynaecology

As a first, doctor from Mumbai gets a ‘Fellow Honoris Causa’ award for her excellence in the field of gynaecology. It is an award of excellence issued by The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG)

The All India Coordinating Committee (AICC) of RCOG, UK in association with The Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) committees and The Mumbai Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society (MOGS) held a felicitation event at Hotel Trident, Mumbai.

“This award means a lot to me. I have been admiring and inspiring RCOG ever since and that is why this is a special moment for me. This wouldn’t have been possible without support from my husband, Dr Hrishikesh Pai and my sister Poonam Dhillon,” said an emotional Dr Rishma Dhillon Pai, President of Federation of Obstetrician and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) and a consultant gynaecologist at the Lilavati, Jaslok and Hinduja Healthcare Hospitals.

The event felicitated about 35 fellows who came from across Asia. “There are about 750 delegates from India, Sri Lanka and Japan. Through such events, there is assimilation of culture and international policies are also brought to the forum,” said Dr Ameet Patki, practicing gynaecologist and obstetrician in Mumbai as well as the West zone chairperson of the RCOG conference.

“Dr Pai is a very dynamic woman. She has truly believed that doctors are in a position to make a change in people’s life,” added Dr Patki.

He further explained that Indians are performing very well in the field of medicine, everywhere in the globe. “A lot of Indians are performing exceptionally well in the field of medicine. Indians are said to be one of the best doctors in the world. In fact, the largest amount of doctors outside the United Kingdom is of Indian origin.”
