- The event started with a lucid presentation on GST for Doctors by Mr Hakim. He gave a sound advice about the applicable GST to individual doctors as well as nursing homes. The next session was about Infection Control mechanisms for nursing homes, by AMC knowledge partners, Suburban Diagnostics. Dr Vasant Nagwekar, Dr Viral, Dr Shaheen gave rational methods of infection control and antibiotic prescription policy in medical practice.
- NABH has launched an ambitious venture to accredit small hospitals and AMC is exploring means of accreditation of their nursing homes. Dr Sudhir Naik, Prakash Gadgil and Dr Santosh Datar attempted to bust the fear around the so-called tough NABH standards.
- While all agreed that social media did have potential, it should be used responsibly and a doctor may segregate one’s personal and professional profile to avoid adverse events.
The highlight of the event was a short skit, written and directed by Dr Sujata Rao, AMC Past President and Zonal Director. The topic was 360 degree take on Communication in Social Media Era. The performing artists, Dr Kartik Bhagat, Dr Dinesh Vadher, Dr Mona Badani, Dr Nalin Vesmaker, Dr Rahul Modi, Dr Amola Parikh and Dr Ketan Badani depicted the circular manner in which the doctor-patient relationship has evolved.
This was followed by a Panel Discussion on the same theme to have a 360 degree take on Communication in Social Media Era. The various aspects of social media challenges and opportunities for medical practice were discussed. The panel discussion was conducted by Dr Sujata Rao and Dr Mukesh Gupta.
Dr Jayeshree Shah, a panelist, felt the need of doctors to detect an irate patient before an actual mob aggression or an abusive online review appears. She believed that emotional quotient of a doctor prevents patients misgivings towards doctors. While, Sonali Patankar, the other panelist added that along with EQ, today. TQ (Technology Quotient) is equally important. She stressed the need of parents monitoring their kids’ net activities.
Dr Smita, AMC President emphasised on the lack of patience in the patient’s to get their treatment results instantly. As per her, the core competency of a doctor lies in listening to one’s patient which goes a long way to create healthy doctor-patient bond.
Santosh Andhale the media Panelist, suggested that communication workshops and training should start at school level so that right conduct and health information is disseminated in childhood itself. Adv Ashish Chavan cautioned the audience about engaging oneself to any adverse comment on social media or to indulge in unnecessary forwards. In event if a social media abuse, he advised to write to the site administrator and send a legal notice if required.
