Mumbai: 78 prisoners from Byculla jail admitted to Sir JJ Hospital, food poisoning suspected

Immediately after having morning breakfast the prisoners complained of vomiting and stomach ache. The jail department has admitted 58 of them to the hospital

  • 78 prisoners from Mumbai’s Byculla jail have been admitted to Sir JJ Group of Hospitals. 
  • Sources informed that immediately after having their morning breakfast, the prisoners complained of stomach ache and vomiting.
  • The inmates were immediately rushed to Mumbai’s Sir JJ Group of Hospital, and their condition is said to be out of danger. 

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Mukund Tayde, Acting Dean of Sir JJ Group of Hospital said, “As of now 78 patients have been admitted to our hospital and we expect a few more to come. We have started their treatment immediately. The prisoners are being treated in the emergency ward. A team of 40 doctors are treating the patients. 100 beds have been allotted by the hospital administration. Two doctors are monitoring one patient, whose case is rather severe.”

Sources in the jail department said the prisoners complained of vomiting, stomach ache, and giddiness immediately after having breakfast. As of now, the treating doctors have put them on antibiotics and their condition is being monitored.
