  • Krushnakant Pande (name changed), a Andheri resident, was suffering from headache. On January 7, he was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. But on January 17, the doctors declared him brain-dead, due to brain haemorrhage.
  • After which, the doctors took the family’s consent for organ donation. Being aware about the cause of organ donation, Pande’s wife granted permission to donate his organs. Accordingly, the patient’s liver, kidneys and heart was donated.
  • As per the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC’s) guidelines, liver and a kidney were donated to the patients taking treatment at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital while, his other kidney was donated to Jaslok Hospital. The heart was sent to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune via a green corridor.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Rekha Barot, transplant coordinator at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital said, “Since few days, Pande was suffering from headache. He was also having hypertension. There was no improvement even after giving him treatment or medicines. He was being treated for 10 days in the hospital. But, due to brain haemorrhage, he was declared dead on January 17 at 10:00 am.”

She added, “At that time, Pande’s wife, son and brother was present in the hospital. From them, we took the permission to donate his organs. Immediately, the organ donation procedure was completed.”
