Mumbai: 44 injured, 2 dead in Ganesh visarjan festivities

While all roads led to the sea yesterday (Sunday) as Mumbaikars took to the streets to bid farewell to the Lord Ganesha. Several people were also rushed to the hospitals due to different types of injuries

  • Five people were admitted to civic-run Nair Hospital.
  • Twenty-two people were admitted to Ghatkopar’s Rajawadi Hospital.
  • Seventeen people were admitted to a private hospital in Kandivali.

On Monday morning, September 24, a boat carrying  five devotees turned turtle and submerged into the Arabian sea. But, immediately people who were on the other boat jumped into the sea and rescued the five people. They had been taken to Nair hospital for further treatment.

In Bhandup, a 32-year-old man drowned in a lake and was declared brought dead at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. Another person suffered from a heart attack at Kajupada in Bhandup.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Vidya Thakur, a medical superintendent at Rajawadi Hospital said, “In total, 22 people were brought in to the hospital due to injuries sustained during the festivities. One person was brought dead to the hospital.”

At Charkop and Powai lakes, two Ganesh idols collapsed during the visarjan procession and fell on top of the devotees who were surrounding it. The injured people were rushed to a private hospital in Kandivali. In total, there were 17 people were admitted.
