Mumbai: 28 cases of lepto witnessed in the first half of August

As the monsoon has progressed over the country, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released another health report on the list of cases of people suffering from monsoon related diseases. It has to be noted that August 2018, witnessed fewer instances of monsoon diseases in comparison with August 2017. The report provides information regarding the first fifteen days of the month

Mumbai: Leptospirosis claims first victim of monsoon?

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Padmaja Keskar, Executive Health Officer, BMC, said, “In comparison with August 2017, we have seen that there are no recorded cases of swine flu (H1N1 virus)  this year, whereas, in 2017 there were 122 cases of the H1N1 virus. A similar trend is notice with gastroenteritis and cholera patients. This has been mainly due to the effective measures taken by the BMC.”

Keskar added, “In regards with malaria, a total of 500 houses were surveyed, through which 1,875 people were screened. There were 6 cases of fever and 5 cases of urinary tract infections.”

She further said, “In regards with leptospirosis, 450 houses were surveyed , through which 1,750 people were screened, there were 11 cases of people having fever who were suspected to have leptospirosis, out of which 7 were confirmed to be suffering from the disease, they were taken to a nearby dispensary for immediate treatment.”
