This unique cyclothon which was flagged off from BJGMC Pune by Hon. Dean Dr Ajay Chandanwale in presence of Dr Ajay Taware concluded at the historic Shaniwarwada. It was organised to create social awareness –‘Healthy body healthy skin, vitiligo is treatable and leprosy is curable.’
On this occasion Dean Dr Ajay Chandanwale congratulated dept. of skin, more than 100 participants who completed the rally and praised the dept. of skin for having conceived this first of its kind inaugural activity.
He stressed upon the need destigmatise both vitiligo and leprosy. Senior Dermatologist Dr D.J.Patil addressed the gathering and explained that leprosy is entirely curable and social and economic rehabilitation is the need of the hour.
When the entire nation is celebrating birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) has decided to celebrate it by creating awareness on mental illnesses.
Dr Manjeet Santre, from SGH, said, “It is important to create awareness on mental illnesses and the first step is to sensitise patient’s relatives. Only when they are counselled they can be sensitive to such patient’s demands. Effective care of the patients can be ensured when the near once know about the disease.”
The hospital authorities said that many people had attended the program and expressed that counselling has helped them. Dr Ajay Chandanwale, said, “We decided to mark the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by creating awareness on mental illnesses. We have got good response. We hope that with such events people are more sensitised for mental health related issues.”
