Maharashtra: Anganwadi sevikas to take out morcha on September 25

The anganwadi workers have taken to the streets in the past to raise their voice for their demands. But their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. This morcha is going to be a statewide protest

Two lakh anganwadi workers will participate in this protest and hit the streets which across Maharashtra.

The key demands being made by the anganwadi sevikas are:

  • An increase in salary, more than what the recent remuneration has promised.
  • Include them in scheme which government employees are currently availing.
  • A fixed pension of Rs 5,000 must be provided after retirement.
  • A record of work which is being done to be maintained on a daily basis.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Rajesh Shinha, secretary of Maharashtra Anganwadi Workers Association, said, “PM Modi has given the workers an increment but we are not satisfied with it as the amount is very less. Our demands are not being met. We are going to bring out a morcha on September 25, in order to draw attention from the state government and voice our grievances.”

On September 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a landmark increase in remuneration for ASHA and Anganwadi workers.

PM Modi also announced significant increase in the honorarium given to Anganwadi workers. Those receiving Rs. 3,000 so far, would now receive Rs. 4,500. Similarly those receiving Rs. 2,200, would now get Rs. 3,500. The honorarium for Anganwadi helpers has also been increased from Rs. 1,500 to Rs 2,250.

The Prime Minister also announced that Anganwadi workers and helpers using techniques such as Common Application Software (ICDS-CAS), would get additional incentives. The incentives ranging from Rs. 250 to Rs. 500, would be based on performance.
