Maharashtra state is gearing up to tackle monsoon-related illnesses, and for the first time, the State Health Department has established a cell for the same. The cell will examine the media reports on diseases and accordingly will take action.

Dr Pradeep Awate, Head of Epidemiology Department, State Health Department, said, “The four-people special cell is formed which will look into the media reports. Many times media reports from fringe areas become crucial in giving us information about monsoon-related diseases in a particular area. Our cell will evaluate such reports and will take action accordingly.”

The drinking water supply of all the villages is checked to avoid waterborne diseases. Also, officials informed that medicinal supply reached all healthcare facilities. Fogging, and other cleanliness related measures have also been started.

“Apart from the routine measures, this cell will help us in tackling specific area-wise issues, and measures to keep Dengue and Chikungunya under check,” he added.
