The United Nations had accepted the resolution to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21, on 11 December 2014.
As the International Yoga Day is around the corner, Education Minister Vinod Tawade has come up with an innovative idea to inculcate yoga in the daily routine of the school students.
While addressing a meeting with the education and the sports officers of the state government Vinod Tawade suggested that 21st of every month should be celebrated as ‘Yoga Day.’
Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawade stated, “The United Nations has accepted the resolution to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21. Preparations are on to celebrate this day in all the schools across the state. While doing so, schools must keep aside a fixed time on 21st of every month to celebrate yoga day.”
Tawade further added, “On 21st of every month, the schools should teach yoga to the students for a minimum time of half-an-hour. If there is a holiday on 21st, then this day should be celebrated before or after 21st. We should teach the students the benefits of yoga. How it helps in personality development and how the students can build concentration by practicing yoga.”
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Prashant Redij, Secretary, Mumbai School Principal Association, said, “We welcome the decision taken by the Education Minister. Celebrating yoga day every month is indeed a very good decision. As of now, yoga is being taught in every school. Yoga has lots of benefits for the students.”
