Maha: Road mishap in Pune claims 2 lives, 19 injured

The incident took place at Dive Ghat between Saswad and Pune when several palanquins of Sant Namdev were on their way to Alandi


In Dive Ghat, a JCB rammed into a ‘warkari dindi’ in the morning around 8:30 am on November 19. It has injured many warkaris (followers of Lord Vithoba), while two are declared dead.

While Sant Namdev’s procession was on its way to Alandi from Pandhurpur, the driver lost control of the JCB which was heading to Pune from Saswad and entered into the procession

“Due to brake failure, the JCB crashed into the warkaris. Around four to five are critically injured and doctors have started treatment on them,” informed Jagannath Bhosale, a constable from Loni Kalbhor police station.

The injured persons have been shifted to Nobel Hospital in Hadapsar

Dr H K Sale from Nobel Hospital stated that in a total of 19 warkaris were brought to the hospital. And two of them were declared as brought dead. “Three of them have critical injuries like rib fracture and leg fracture. They will need surgeries and further treatment. Whereas the rest have minor injuries,” he added.

Police are further doing the investigation upon the road accident, treatment has been started on those who are injured.
