- The Maharashtra government has decided to set up an ‘organ temple’ in Nashik, Maharashtra to boost the organ donation in the state.
- The ‘organ temple’ will be an international monument, which will feature the names of the organ donors and their families.
- The ambitious project is the brainchild of Medical Education Minister, Girish Mahajan.
The proposed ‘organ temple’ will be constructed in Nashik, Maharashtra, and the work is likely to commence by next year.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Medical Education Minister, Girish Mahajan, said, “The day, I assumed the office and took charge of the medical education department. I had decided to promote organ donation movement on the mass scale. The ‘organ temple’ will help us spread a word about the importance of organ donation at the mass scale.”
The government of Maharashtra has identified 3-4 acres of land in Nashik, and the work is expected to commence early next year.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Sandeep Jadhav, OSD to the Medical Education Minister, said, “The organ temple will showcase the names of the organ donors and their families. It will also share the importance of organ donation, what is organ donation? How doctors perform the procedure of Organ Donation. Moreover, all necessary information about organ donation will be provided to the citizens.”
He further added, “We will conduct awareness programmes on organ donation. Where information about what is organ retrieval, and how human organs are transplanted will be made available to the citizens.”
In India, around five lakh people die every year due to non-availability of the organs. In a million, only 0.58 people come forward and donate their organs.
