Maha doctors to get ‘overtime’

Doctors, Are you willing to work in rural areas? But, worried about working for more than eight hours and getting less ‘overtime’? Then, here is good news for you


Now, doctors serving in the rural years will get ‘overtime’. The Health Department has taken this decision with the intention of encouraging maximum doctors to work in rural areas. Currently, there are many vacant posts for the doctors in the rural areas. For this, the state government will take 500 doctors on contract basis. According to officials, the decision of giving ‘overtime’ is for doctors who want to work in rural areas.

Regarding this decision of the government, speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Satish Pawar, Directorate of Health Services (DHS) said, “In remote and inaccessible areas, patients do not get a timely treatment. Overtime will be given so that doctors should work in such areas. This decision is taken by the government.”

Owing to which, 101 hospitals across the state will fill 500 vacant posts of gynaecologist, paediatrician and anaesthetist.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, commissioner of Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Maharashtra said, “Expert doctors are not ready to provide services to the rural areas. Due to which, patients in rural and district-level hospitals, do not get necessary facilities. This decision has been taken, so that the doctors get ready to work in the rural areas, to provide timely treatment to these patients.”

He added, “”Doctors working in rural areas earn Rs 40,000 to 50,000. But, they have to work more than eight hours. So, doctors do not come here. According to this new decision, the doctor will earn up to 1,50,000 to 2,oo,ooo.

The doctor who wants to work in the district hospital must first submit the application to the district president or district civil surgeon. After which, the doctors will be recruited. Not only this, doctors will be appointed at the place which is well-equipped with all the necessary facilities. Doctors will only be recruited after providing the essential facilities.
