On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar inaugurated the Asmita Yogana, to provide sanitary pads at an affordable price.

Akshay Kumar said, “For bring about a scheme such as Asmita Yogana, I want to give Pankaja Munde the title of ‘Padwoman.’ People should go on the Asmita app and contribute to the cause of sanitary pads. With the help of the funds gathered, Maharashtra can achieve 100 per cent use of sanitary pads.”

Speaking about this, CM Devendra Fadnavis, stated, “This scheme aims to provide sanitary pads to girls and women, helps them take care of their health. They will be a massive social change through this scheme. The shyness among girls regarding will reduce and this will help improve their health.”

Talking about this initiative, Women and Child Development Minister, Pankaja Munde said, “When it comes to menstrual hygiene in rural areas, there are certain myths and superstitions associated with menstruation. Through a survey we found that only 17% women use sanitary pads in villages. Keeping this in mind, we thought of developing this scheme”

She added, “This scheme comes under Ummed Abhiyan, through this scheme girl s studying in Zilla Parishad schools will be given sanitary pads at an affordable rate of Rs 5 per eight-pad packet. Meanwhile, the women living in rural area can avail the sanitary packs for Rs 24 or Rs 29.”
