Maha: 57 doctors with a bogus degree banned from practising

The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has suspended 57 doctors across the state, for submitting fake documents for obtaining additional qualification registration. The MMC had earlier received several numbers of complaints about the bogus doctors. Owing to which, the MMC had started the drive to inspect the documents submitted by the doctors for registration

  • The Maharashtra Medical Council has banned 57 doctors for submitting forged additional qualification degree 
  • According to the MMC sources, 7 doctors have been banned for 5 years and 50 have been suspended for one year 
  • Till now, 77 doctors have been found to have submitted forged additional qualification degree for registration. Out of which 20 doctors were suspended in the month of April 

The Maharashtra Medical Council has launched its biggest ever crackdown to curb the menace of bogus doctors across Maharashtra. The council has taken strict action against the doctors who have submitted bogus additional qualification degree for the purpose of registration.

In the latest action, the council has banned 57 doctors from practising, those who have a bogus degree.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, President of the Maharashtra Medical Council Dr Shivkumar Utture said, “We have taken strict action against the doctors who have submitted bogus additional qualification degrees. These doctors are working in the rural areas as a consultant. They are providing specialised medical service though they are unqualified for the job.”

Earlier in the month of April, the MMC had suspended 20 doctors for submitting the fake degree certificate.

The issue of doctors with a bogus degree was raised in Maharashtra legislative council. While answering the question raised by the legislatures, Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan had said,  “The candidates have merely changed the photo and name on the original degrees. The Maharashtra Medical Council has started investigating all candidates who are registered post-2011.”
