The patient is a 42-year-old woman who is a resident of Pashan, Pune she was referred to Sassoon Hospital from a medical camp organised by NGO Aarogyabharti. She was suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and was on haemodialysis since the past nine months. The doctors advised the woman to undergo a kidney transplant. The patient’s mother, who is 58 years old gave her consent for donating her kidney to daughter.
The lady’s husband works as peon. She has two schoolgoing children. As the financial condition of family was weak, her kidney transplant operation was done through the aid of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jana Arogya Yojana.
The dean from Sassoon General Hospital, Dr Ajay Chandanwale informed that as a live donor this is the fifth kidney transplant and total ninth kidney transplant in Sassoon Hospital. He said that the hospital has upgraded patient care to perform complex surgeries like kidney transplants.
The doctors who were involved in this kidney transplant surgery were Urosurgen Dr Suresh Patankar, Dr Rajesh Shrotri, Dr Govind Kasat, Dr Abhay Sadare, Dr Niranjan Ambekar, Dr Dhanesh Kamerkar, and operated and Anaesthetist were Dr Vidya Kelkar Dr Surekha Shinde, Dr Yogesh Gavali. Matron Rajashri Korke and Rukhsana Sayyed assisted in this operation.
