A lot of people love to have a pet dog at their but many people fail to take care of their pet in the long-run.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr J.C. Khanna, Secretary, Animal Hospital Parel, said, “Lifestyle changes are the major contributor to the rise in kidney ailments among the dogs. High-protein diets, a lack of exercise, less intake of water are other reasons due to which a high number of dogs are suffering from the kidney ailments. On a daily basis, dialysis is performed on 25-30 dogs those who are suffering from kidney failure.”

Dr Khanna added, “Unlike human beings, animals have no such option to undergo a kidney transplant. So, they have to depend on dialysis for the rest of their life. We measure the creatinine levels in the body and then decide how many times the dialysis has to be performed.”

According to the vets, animals cannot perform an exercise on their own. So, people, who keep pets, should make sure that they should take their dog for a walk or play so that it can burn his energy.
