Barely after five hours on Wednesday (March 29) evening of the incident wherein two intern doctors were assaulted and beaten up in Thane Civil hospital by a patient and his friends came to light, another incident of vandalism in hospital was reported from Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. The doctors were assaulted after a pregnant woman patient died of excess bleeding.
According to police, on Wednesday morning, Umaira Sheikh, a resident of Master Colony, was admitted to Mamata Hospital for delivery. But, immediately after the delivery, Sheikh started bleeding. Though doctors were examining her, the bleeding did not stop and her condition worsened after few hours. Relatives got her admitted to Apex Hospital, where she died during the treatment.
Following which, her relatives went to Mamata Hospital and started abusing the doctors, alleging them of negligence.
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Superintendent of Police (Jalgaon), Jalindar Supekar, said, “Relatives demanded money from the doctors, alleging negligence on their part. When doctors didn’t budge and refused to pay, they abused the doctors and vandalised the hospital. We have registered a case against four and we will arrest them soon.”
The whole incident has been captured on the CCTVs installed in the hospital (watch the video below).
In yet another incident, Dr Shriraj Pawar from Bharti Hospital in Pune was abused by relatives after death of a patient.
According to police, the relatives abused the doctor alleging of wrong treatment.
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, a police officer attached to Bharti Vaidyapeeth police station, said, “We have arrested two persons so far in this case. We have charged them under Doctors’ Protection Act.”
These incidents have happened barely few hours after the thane incident. Last week, resident doctors from Maharashtra, went on a mass leave for five days, demanding better security measures inside the hospital premises.
