Is the chicken people consume safe? How safe are the grains and vegetables people consume? The Bombay High Court raised these questions in front of the state government. Day by day there is an increase in food adulteration, this can become a health risk to people.

The Citizen Circle for Social Welfare and Education, filed a petition in the High Court over the increase in food adulteration and pesticide use. While hearing the petition, HC raised the question on food adulteration.

Fruits and vegetables are sprayed with pesticides for them to ripen early. Also, chickens are injected with antibiotic injections to make them look bigger. But there needs to be a limitation on this, as an excess of this can be harmful for human health. The High Court has suggested that the gram sabhas of each district should look into this and people must be trained.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Shezhad Naqvi, a lawyer representing the organisation of The Citizen Circle for Social Welfare and Education, said, “At the moment, there are just four mobile vans to check the quality of food products. This number is very less to keep a tab on food adulteration. The High Court asked the state government, when will more mobile vans be introduced to prevent the rising cases of food adulteration.”
