Whenever people have attended Dr Avinash Saoji’s public programs, he makes it a point to invite them for the celebrations of his 100th birthday.
He says that he wants to live and keep working till he is a 100 years old, this is what inspires him.
“There is so much to be done and I want to work till I am 100 years old. I don’t want to waste time in illness. That’s why I want to stay fit,” Dr Saoji said.
The doctor, who is just 56 years old, also is the founder and Director of Prayas, which is an NGO based in Amravati, Maharashtra which works towards the betterment of all four dimensions of health i.e. physical, mental, social and spiritual health.
Apart from his social work, Dr Saoji often conducts workshops which guide people on how to stay fit. He himself is a fitness idol for many, as he has managed to live a healthy life in spite of his daily hectic schedule
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, he said that his physical stamina has increased over the years. He walks about 5 to 6 kilometres, at least five days a week.
He also performs yogasanas which help keep his mind and body fresh. He travels tirelessly all over India for his work. If he ever misses his exercise regime, he compensates for it during his free time.
How does Dr Avinash Saoji stay fit while traveling?
- He takes the stairs whenever possible
- If possible, he performs yogasanas on the seat of a bus/train
- He takes a walk on the platform, when the train stops at the station
“While traveling I just make sure that there is physical activity in some way or the other,” Dr Saoji informed.
Apart from exercise, diet too plays an important role in his day to day life. As a balanced diet plays a crucial role in maintaining fitness. Dr Saoji pays a keen attention to his diet intake, but at the same time, he doesn’t refrain from enjoying a sweet dish once in a while.
“Just like my exercise routine, I am flexible in my diet habits. I haven’t completely omitted sweet dishes from my life. I do additional exercise if I happen to eat these dishes. You won’t be able to enjoy life if you are too rigid in such things,” he said.

According to Dr Saoji one should have a purpose in life. It helps in keeping a person motivated and gives them inspiration to maintain their health as well.
