- Doctors from Israel, Harvard Medical School – USA, and Russia had come to Pune to witness India’s sixth uterus transplant surgery
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Shailesh Puntambekar, Director of the Galaxy Care Hospital said, “This was the sixth uterus transplant surgery that has been performed by us. Doctors from India, USA, Israel and Russia had come to witness the surgery. This is the first time that the uterus surgery has been shown live to the doctors. The surgery was shown live to doctors in Italy.”
“Doctors from different countries want to start the uterus transplant surgeries. That is why the surgery was shown live to the doctors. The aim of showing the surgery live was to explain to the doctors about uterus transplant surgery, how it is done and on whom the surgery can be performed. The doctors also asked questions,” said Dr Puntambekar.
This was the sixth uterus transplant surgery, which has been performed by Indian doctors.
Dr Puntambekar said, “A 26-year-old women from Hyderabad, was born without a uterus. Three years ago she got married and decided to go in for uterus transplant surgery. Her 48-year-old mother had donated her uterus.”
