HIV: NGO’s campaign to find a suitable match

People suffering from HIV or AIDS find it difficult to search for a suitable match. Mumbai District AIDS Control Society is tirelessly working for the same. The part of this network of people living with HIV has organised a campaign. This is the 11th year of the organisation. Till now, many men and women with HIV have found a suitable match


  • The fear of contracting the disease combined with negative feelings, people have contributed towards the stigma that is associated with HIV/ AIDS. What makes it worse is the social taboo that is associated with the disease often forcing patients to keep the disease hidden from others. But, these patients also need support and care.
  • So, to help them to find suitable match, Mumbai District AIDS Control Society had launched a web portal Where many have registered.
  • So, a campaign has been organised to find a suitable match. Registration can be done till March 5.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Anita Wangankar, secretary, network of people living with HIV said, “Since the year 2007, we are organising campaign to help people with HIV find a suitable match.  Till now, over 150 people have registered from Mumbai and Maharashtra while, 2 have registered from Gujarat. The date of the campaign will be finalised after the registration process is completed.”

Sreekala Acharya, president, Mumbai District AIDS Control Society said, “People don’t get ready to marry a person suffering from HIV. Owing to which, we have organised the campaign. “
