Although, you may have thick hair during your teens, going bald at 20 is possible. It may cause you to panic as many young men do, and lead you to think of ways to remedy the situation.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Chitra Naik, dermatologist, BYL Nair hospital said, “Earlier, women experienced hair fall problem, but now, men are also complaining about the same. In this hospital, 150 to 200 patients come for treatment. Of which, 100 are youngsters. This includes the children from the age group of 18 to 25. Also, the hair problem of premature graying of hair is being noticed. If it is not treated on time, it can lead to hair fall and eventually, one can become bald.”

She added, “Sometimes, it can be due to stress, children are often pressurise by their parents when it comes to their studies. This in turn, stresses the mind and body, which results in premature graying of hair. So parents should pay a special attention on their children.”

Reasons for hair loss at an early age:

Hormonal change
•Lack of essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamins and minerals can lead to severe hair fall that could account to baldness
•Due to side-effects of the tablets
•Hair colours, shampoo, conditioner and gel can lead to hair fall
•It can be hereditary
• Erratic sleep schedules

As per dermatologists, stress leads to hormonal imbalance in men, smoking, alcohol and tobacco consumption lead to hair loss.

Dr Deepak Hadawle said, “Now, the percentage of hair fall in men is increasing. To combat it, one should have nutritional diet.”

Tips to curb hair fall:
•Eat 10 curry leaves every day
•Apply coconut oil on hair
•Include calcium-rich foods
•Consult doctor if you experience continuous hair fall
