The parents of an eight-year-old from Pune have started a crowdfunding campaign for their son who is suffering from liver failure and needs to undergo a liver transplant immediately.

Naiteek is suffering from a congenital disease named Wilson’s disease and this disease has led to his liver failure in this case. The doctors have advised the family to go in for a liver transplant as soon as possible.

Naiteek’s condition has become so critical that he is not able to attend school. His father is a worker in a small scale industry in Pune, while his mother is a homemaker. As his parents are not able to fund the surgery on their own, they have resorted to crowdfunding as an attempt to help gather funds required for their son’s surgery.

Binay Kumar Upadhyay, the father of the boy, said, “I earn around Rs 20,000 a month. I do not qualify for the Chief Minister medical aid scheme. But, this meagre income of mine is not sufficient for his treatment.”

“We have already spent around Rs 2 lakh for his treatment till now and he also needs round Rs 30,000 for his monthly medicines. We have taken a loan from friends and family of about Rs 1 lakh up so far and I have also sold my wife’s jewellery,” he added.

Dr Bipin Vibhute, a liver transplant surgeon at Sahyadri hospital who is treating Naiteek, said, “The mechanism which metabolises copper in the body is absent in his case. This is leading to secretion of copper in different organs in the body. If not treated in time, this can become a serious condition for the boy as it might affect his mental growth. In this age, with mere Rs 20,000 monthly income, it becomes difficult for a person to raise funds for the surgery and therefore they have made an appeal on social media.”

The cost of the surgery is around Rs 22, 00,000 lakh and till date around Rs 90,000 has been generated through crowdfunding. Given below is the link through which people interested in helping Naiteek can click upon.
