According to the experts, food heated in a plastic container in a microwave can put your unborn child at the risk of infertility, obesity, diabetes, and cancer. Scientists have found that heating food in the plastic containers releases chemicals which then get mixed with the food, and can cause various health-related ailments.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Niranjan Chavan, Professor at gynecology department of Mumbai’s civic-run Sion hospital, said, “Heating food in plastic containers in the microwave is likely to have an effect on infertility. But the most hazardous chemical is Bisphenol A — BPA, and can cause diseases like cancer, obesity, and diabetes.”

Health experts say that while heating the food in the plastic container, as much as 95 percent of the chemicals are released.

Dr Pradeep Ghadge, a diabetologist from Mumbai, said, “Many studies have shown that BPA is the major contributor of developing insulin resistance in the body. When a person develops insulin resistance, he is likely to suffer from Type-2 diabetes. But, there is no direct correlation between the BPA and diabetes.”
