Speaking in the 28th GST Council meeting in New Delhi, Finance minister Piyush Goyal has announced that sanitary napkins will be exempted from GST.
The plea to exempt sanitary napkin from GST has been going on for a long time. Several woman and social organisation have been raising this issue and demanded that the sanitary pads be made GST-free as it much needed product for securing woman’s health and hygiene. Recently, the Nationalist Congress Party had carried out an Andolan demanding GST-free sanitary napkins.
While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Finance Minister of Maharashtra said, “I want to thank Finance Minister Piyush Goel. This is a very good decision taken by the GST council.”
Nationalist Party leader, Chitra Wagh, said, “We welcome the decision taken by the union government. Today crores of a woman who had been fighting the battle to make sanitary pads tax-free have won.”
Speaking on this Nilam Gorhe, Shiv Sena MLA said, “This is a good decision taken by government. This will reduce the price shown on sanitary napkins packet. Every packet should print that they have reduce the price. Now I would start a Whatsapp campaign to raise awareness that sanitary pads are made tax-free, so that every woman can know the sanitary napkin is GST-free.”
Speaking to My Medial Mantra, Marathi film actress, Spruha Joshi said, “This is positive news for women. Sanitary pads are an essential commodity for ladies. It was important for GST to be removed from sanitary pads to safeguard public health.”
