Ganapati Bappa’s Mahaprasad on Maharashtra FDA’s checklist

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will keep a vigil on the Mahaprasad, which is distributed during Ganesh festival at Ganapati pandals. This is being done to keep a check on food safety 


  • The FDA has given strict orders to all the food inspectors to keep a close watch on the food, sweets or Mahaprasad which is being prepared during this festive season
  • A number of cases have been reported in the past, that to make small monetary gains shop owners use adulterated food items.
  • FDA inspectors will carry out a surprise check at the Ganesh Pandal where Mahaprasad is being prepared, in the vicinity.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Shailesh Aadhav, Joint Commissioner Food said, “As a precautionary measure, we have asked all the food inspectors to keep a strict vigil for adulteration in food items. They will also conduct a surprise check at various Ganesh pandal in the city. Soon, we will hold a meeting on this matter with the Ganesh mandals. We will inform them how they can prepare nutritious prasad.”

He further said, “Mahaprasad which will be distributed among the devotees should be kept in a cool and clean place. The mandals should take care to prepare prasad at a clean and hygienic location.”
