Heat, humidity, and not maintaining hygiene are the main contributory factors for having a skin infection. We all must have experienced red patches, itchy skin, and fungal infections irritating us, but, do you know, the skin infection can occur near your vaginal area?

Few conditions that can occur near the vaginal region:

Eczema

It is an autoimmune disease. On the vagina, it can pop up like a red spot.

Lichen Sclerosus

This rare, chronic condition — marked by white or red “tough” or tight skin — can impact skin anywhere on your body. It usually pops up in women post-menopause.

Psoriasis

Unfortunately, the bright red, scaly rash of psoriasis can affect your genitals, too. The most common type of psoriasis that can impact women down below is inverse psoriasis. It’s usually identified by smooth and dry red lesions that can pop up in the creases of the thighs.

Contact Dermatitis

After coming into contact with the substance that does not like your skin, it will flare up with a red, itchy-rash, often complemented by small blisters.

Intertrigo

Intertrigo is a rash that pops up between the folds of the skin. Very common and can occur at any time.

While speaking My Medical Mantra, Dr Bindu Sthalekar, a Mumbai-based dermatologist, said, “Skin, near the vagina, can be affected with different skin conditions. Rashes, red patches, itchy-skin, skin getting tight, and fungal infection are the common causes. In India, heat and humidity are the main factors which contribute to the skin condition. In few women, Eczema, Contact Dermatitis, and Psoriasis are also seen.”
