Fire at Mumbai’s Kamala Mills compound: 14 dead, 26 injured

A massive fire broke out at 12.30 am at '1 Above' restaurant in Kamala Mills Compound, Mumbai. As per BMC disaster management's information, at least 14 people lost their lives in the incident and 26 are injured. The injured are admitted to KEM Hospital, National Burns Centre and Bhatia Hospital

  • A massive fire broke out in Mumbai. As per BMC’s  disaster management’s information, at least 14 people lost their lives and 26 are injured. The reason of the fire is still unknown.
  • Many people were present in the pub when the fire broke.
  • As per fire brigade officials, the reason of the fire is still unknown. May be short circuit could be the reason. 11 women and 3 men have lost their lives.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Avinash Supe, Dean of KEM Hospital said, “26 were brought in the hospital. 14 have been declared dead and 6 have been treated and discharged. Other six have been admitted.”

He added, “We have left the decision of staying back or going to Private hospitals to the patients itself. But whatever needs to be done, is being done for them.”

Dr Sunil Keswani, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, Medical Director at National Burns Centre said, “One person has got admitted here. He has burns in both his hands and back. Doesn’t seem very serious as of now. He will be thoroughly checked though.”

‘1Above’ management issues statement, “We offer our full support to all afflicted. ‘1Above’ has all its fire safety regulations, licenses, procedures and norms in place – we have been able to help save many lives thanks to our fire safety protocols and are grateful to our staff for their presence of mind and help in this time of crisis,” read the statement.
