The bubbly, talkative, carefree and ever smiling Ishwari is sun kissed on her bed and sadly, is totally confined to it since the past month. The Harne’s, a family of six are solely dependent on the income of Ishwari’s father, Nitin. He is a school teacher in a village located in Chanyacha Pada, a place which is easily 100 kms from Mumbai.
The family rushed her to the nearest hospital which diagnosis her with Fanconi anaemia, a rare genetic disorder which affects the DNA. It results in decreased production of all types of blood cells.
Fanconi anaemia is caused due to an abnormal gene that damages cells, which keeps them from repairing the damaged DNA. The condition is most often diagnosed in children between 2 and 15 years of age. This basically means that the bone marrow is damaged.
Owing to this damage, Ishwari will now have to undergo a bone marrow transplant, which will cost about Rs 30 lakhs. “I have a salary of Rs 30,000 a month. However, my medical loans for the family cost an EMI of Rs 22,000 a month, leaving me with just Rs 8,000. She is my only child,” added Nitin.
Nitin has now started crowdfunding with the help of an online portal, Milaap. The bone marrow transplant is supposed to take place on February 10. “I just hope that this crowdfunding will help Ishwari,” said a teary-eyed Nitin.
