Fake degree: After suspending 20 doctors, MMC summons 53 more

As many as 53 doctors, with those who have allegedly submitted fake postgraduate, degrees are under MMC's scanner. The MMC has asked these doctors to put their case on April 21. Earlier, the MMC had suspended the licenses of 20 doctors those who were operating with fake additional qualification degrees

  • After suspending 20 doctors with fake additional qualification degree, the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has now summoned 53 doctors for questioning. The doctors have been summoned on April 21, to submit their case.
  • The MMC while scrutinising the documents found that the additional degree documents submitted by the doctors are fake. According to MMC sources, there are more doctors under the scanner and they are now scrutinising the documents produced by the doctors since last seven years.
  • Sources added these doctors are MBBS qualified doctors. But, PG degree submitted by them is fake.

The question which we need to ask is does the specialist doctor, whom you are consulting for your treatment, has a valid PG degree? Does he have an authentic Postgraduate degree for practice?

Yes! The question was raised, due to the recent developments which have shaken the entire medical fraternity in Maharashtra. The MMC had suspended 20 doctors a few days back and now has summoned 53 doctors for allegedly producing the fake additional degree certificates.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Shivkumar Utture, President of the MMC, said, “This is indeed a very serious issue. This is directly connected to the patients’ security and safety. Patients’ safety has been compromised due to this. These doctors are practicing in the interior areas of the state and treating patients as well. The authorities should take a very serious note of this case.”

Dr Utture further added, “We have started scrutinising documents which have been submitted to the MMC in 2015-16. After completing this process, we will soon start scrutinising the documents from the past 7 years. These doctors are not qualified, and yet they are treating the patients.”

In order to curb the menace of bogus doctors across Maharashtra, the MMC had initiated a drive to validate the authenticity of the documents provided by the doctors, at the time of registration.

All MBBS graduates and postgraduates have to obtain a license from MMC in order to carry out practice in the state.
