‘The greatest wealth is health’ says Dr Vikas Agrawal, ENT and sleep apnoea surgeon who aspires to lead a healthy life. Since last 20 years, Dr Agrawal weighs 67 kgs and has been successfully maintaining it. “I was never on a heavier side. And since last 10 years, I am suffering from diabetes and hypertension for which I take medication. Diabetes and hypertension has never affected my work. It is under control now. So, I see to it that I live a disease-free life.”
He added, “Daily, I walk for 20 minutes. I am always active. I follow a well-balanced diet. I am a vegetarian. I eat less of carbs and more proteins and avoid consuming heavy meals at night. I take frequent meals and do not remain hungry for a longer period of time as one tends to over eat.”
Dr Agrawal who does not advocate any crash or fad diets, says that excess of anything is bad and one should have everything in right quantities “My breakfast consists of curd/ brown bread/ roti. I eat fruits and sprouts every day. For lunch, I have 2 rotis and subzi. I do not eat rice. I snack on sukha bhel. My dinner consists of 2 rotis and subzi.”
According to Dr Agrawal, along with a proper fitness and diet routine, a sound sleep is must. “Exercise, diet and a good night’s sleep is a secret of healthy life. While going to bed, switch yourself off from everything.
He signed off by saying, “Every day is a new day. Even if you feel low, make a fresh start in life.”
