EUS is useful in clinical practice, says Dr Angelis

EUS in the last 20 years has become more and more efficient and integral part in clinical practice, for both, diagnosis and staging and therapy. People should understand its importance

EUS useful in clinical practice, says Dr Angelis

Dr Claudio De Angelis, Chief of Endoscopy and Endosonography Center and Neuroendocrine Tumour Center, Gastrohepatology Department, University of Turin, said, “The diseases which we are treating with EUS are similar in Italy and India. Diseases like cancer of GI tractor, cancer of the lungs and all the benign disease of the biliary and the pancreas and the disease in rectal partum.”

He added, “So, I don’t think there is a difference in the pathology that can be diagnosed, staged and treated between Italy and India.”

Briefing about the technologies in Italy and India, Dr Angelis said, “I am not completely aware about the technology in India.” Adding further he said, “In India, there is every kind of technology, but I am not sure whether there is endomicroscopy available or not, that is the technique we use in Italy. For example, stenosis of the biliary and the pancreatic duct, in which we use ERCP and spyglass technique which you also have in India. But, we also use introductal ultrasound and I think India can have it too.”

My message to the doctors, “EUS, in the last 20 years, has become more and more efficient and necessary in clinical practice both for diagnosis and staging and therapy.”

Dr Angelis signed off by saying people should understand the importance of EUS, as the doctors educate them about the same.
