Dr Dhir, who is also the Director of Clinical Research and Head of the Endosonography – BIDS (Baldota Institute of Digestive Sciences), Global Hospital, Mumbai, explained, “While endoscopy deals with the study of the walls in the intestine, ultrasound helps to study the external parts and the structure of the intestine.”

He added, “EUS allows us to look at small pathologies for the minutest of details. Furthermore, it even lets us detect the aging of a tumour. For this conference, the focus will be on the tissue diagnosis, treatments and interventional EUS, which is again a specialized subject under the EUS.”

The conference will also have lectures, live operations that will take place in BIDS which will be discussed in detail.

“Approximately, as many as 450 delegates will be present to discuss their expertise. Diseases, too, are very specific in accordance with the demography. For example, pancreatitis is very common in Western India, gall stones are commonly found in North India, gastric cancers are found in South India and liver or pancreatic diseases are found in Eastern India. With conferences like these, we aim at finding a suitable and feasible treatment for each of these ailments,” informed Dr Dhir.
