Elphinstone bridge stampede: Had she travelled with her father…

When it rains heavily in Mumbai, it brings back the old fear. This morning saw another tragedy in Mumbai when it was raining heavily. As on Friday, At least 22 passengers were killed, amongst which, 22-year-old Shraddha Varpe lost her life. Surprisingly, her father was also in the same train, but he was lucky to have been survived

Like every day, Shraddha Varpe, a 22-year-old resident of Kalyan, who worked in her father’s office, left for work. But this day will haunt Shraddha’s family forever, as, Shraddha will never return.

Every day, Shraddha would travel with her father in a gent’s compartment. But today, due to Navratri she wore a saree and headed to the ladies compartment. While her father was in the same train and travelled in the gent’s compartment. The ladies compartment is located the near the bridge, due to which, Shraddha took the bridge before her father.

People were standing on the stairs and on the foot over-bridge waiting for the rains to stop. But, in the meanwhile, more and more people kept coming, after which there was a chaos and stampede occurred.

According to Shraddha’s family, “This was Shraddha’s first job and she didn’t even complete a month.”

Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Pravin Bangar Senior Administrative officer said, “The severe injuries are chest and head injuries. Minor injuries are leg fractures. Critical patients are being treated in the Intensive care unit (ICU). ”
