Dr Kukde’s has been felicitated for his immense contribution in the field of medicine especially poor and needy patients Along with four of friends, he  had set up Vivekanand Hospital, way back in the year, 1966 in order to provide medical care to the rural people.

After completing his education from Pune University, Dr Kukde started providing medical services in the rural areas of Latur.

Maharashtra had faced a severe drought during 1970. And, also had faced a devastating earthquake in Latur. Dr Kukde through his Vivekanand Hospital had helped thousands of people.

While speaking to My Medical Mantra Dr Ashok Kukde, recipient of Padma Bhushan award said, “I received a call in the afternoon. I never imagined that one day I will be conferred with Padma Bhushan award. When you don’t expect it and still get it, it feels nice.”

He added, “The award is an honour of the collective work which had happened over the past several years. I have never worked with an aim to achieve something. For me, the award is recognition of the efforts which had been put through for the betterment of the people.”

Dr Kukde further added, “Our work has been adjudged and recognised by the people. Today, the government has recognised our work, through which we have served the people. We have always worked together with an aim of the welfare of society, in front of us.”
