Dr Ajay Chandanwale, former dean of B J Medical College and Sassoon Hospital (Pune), will now head Mumbai’s prestigious Sir JJ Group of Hospitals and Grant Medical College.
Dr Chandanwale’s four-year tenure as dean of B J Medical College and Sassoon hospital was successful. His tenure was recognised for his contribution towards the patient’s rights and transforming the working of the hospital.
During his four-year tenure in Pune, Dr Chandanwale was instrumental behind various revolutionary changes and was pivotal in transforming the outlook of the hospital.
Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Dr Ajay Chandanwale , the newly-appointed dean of Sir JJ Group of Hospitals and Grant Medical College, said, “My first preference and priority will be to provide state-of-the-art medical treatment and facility to the patients. Also, better education to the students will by my priority. Soon, we are planning to start a comprehensive organ transplant programme as well.”
In order to provide a better medical care to the poor and needy patients, Dr Chandalwale started various departments. He was responsible for the first liver transplant procedure which was done under his guidance at Sassoon Hospital in Pune.
Dr Chandanwale is credited with bringing CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) worth Rs 85 crore for Sassoon General Hospital. He was also responsible for the free food distribution programme for the poor patients. Apart from that, Sassoon Hospital recently got permission to carry out organ transplants. These are some of great achievements which were attained under his command.
Dr Chandanwale, has headed the orthopaedics department at JJ Hospital for the past seven years.
