After the incident, the resident doctors have gone on a flash strike. But, later the strike was withdrawn after the police assured strict action against the accused.
Barely four days after the junior doctors attached to Mumbai’s state-run Sir JJ Group of Hospitals were assaulted by the angry relatives of the patient. A similar incident unfolded at Ahmedabad civil hospital.
Two junior doctors who were present on duty were manhandled, beaten and abused by the angry relatives on Wednesday night.
According to sources, “The incident happened on Wednesday night, a person who had sustained injuries due to the pneumatic hammer, was brought to the hospital. The patient was admitted to the hospital in serious condition. He was immediately rushed to the operation theatre, but the doctors could not save him.”
A senior doctor from the Ahmedabad civil hospital, requesting anonymity spoke to My Medical Mantra. He said, “As the news of the patient’s death was broken to the family. The relatives became furious. They entered in the operation theatre and started beating the doctor.”
Once word got out that two doctors had been attacked, the resident doctors went on a flash strike, demanding strict action against the accused. The police swung into action and arrested the accused.
After the senior doctors and the police officers assured the doctors about stringent action taken against the accused, the resident doctors withdrew the strike.
Incidents of doctor’s assault are increasing day by day. Nearly a week back on Saturday, May 19, two doctors were beaten by the angry relatives at Mumbai’s JJ hospital. After the incident around 400 resident doctors went on strike.
