Doctor arrested for alleged negligence in Amravati premature babies death

Four premature babies die under suspicious circumstances, collector orders inquiry

A resident doctor from Punjabrao Deshmukh medical college Amravati, Doctor Bhushan Katta has been arrested by police in connection with the death of four preemies, who died under mysterious circumstances. The doctor was charged for death due to negligence under Section 304, and subsequently arrested by police on Tuesday morning.

In a shocking incident, 4 preemies (premature babies) were found dead due to alleged suspicious circumstances, in Amravati district of Maharashtra. All 4 preemies were born in Panjabrao Deshmukh Medical College two day prior to the tragic incident which came to light in the wee hours on Monday morning.

Speaking to My Medical Mantra Collector Amravati, Abhijit Banger, who had ordered the probe said, “Civil surgeon from Amravati civil hospital had conducted the preliminary investigation. During the preliminary investigation Dr Katta, who was the in charge of the NICU, couldn’t give satisfactory answers on how the four preemies died on the same day. The civil surgeon had filed a complaint with the police in this regards”

He further added, “The post mortem was performed at 12:30am on Tuesday. But i am yet to see the post mortem report. Once the report is with me I would be able to comment.”

Sources say that, in their complaint the family had alleged that the doctor was under influence of alcohol, and that is also being probed by the authorities.

Commenting on the doctors arrest Commissioner of Police Amravati, Dattatray Mandalik said, “On the basis of the complaint given by civil surgeon we have arrested doctor Bhushan Katta. We have booked Dr Katta under section 304, causing death due to negligence. Our investigation is still on. Team of doctors from Akola have performed he post mortem, but they have kept the post mortem report reserve, so can’t comment on it at this juncture”
