However, it has been proven that there are things or methods that could extend a person’s existence on the planet. Part of it is having a healthy lifestyle.

Dr Joel Dudley and Dr Chris Mason, founders of Onegevity, an artificial intelligence-based health care service, provide the data-driven techniques to help you better understand your health. During a podcast with mindbodygreen founder and co-CEO Jason Wachob, the two health experts discussed longevity and the latest advancements in genetic, microbiome and blood testing.

How to live longer and healthier

Value your sleep time

Mason said that sleep plays an important role in living a long life. At least six to eight hours of sleep would be enough to promote good health.

There are essential processes that occur only during sleep. Talking about a new research on the glymphatic system that connects the brain with the immune system, Mason said sleep is the only time the body can eliminate unwanted things out of the brain.

Take on new challenges

This will help you reduce or even reverse the effects of aging. Dudley said presenting your body with new challenges could promote resilience, building protection against age-related health conditions.

“Maintaining your body’s ability to respond dynamically to the environment is important,” he said. Such challenges for greater longevity would require flexing your body’s ability to react to changes, such as exposure to cold temperature.

Stay physically active and healthy

Lifestyle changes, such as exercise, a good and healthy diet and maintaining healthy microbiome could help prevent certain conditions. Such changes could reduce risks of having cardiovascular diseases, improve cognitive functions and promote longevity.

Dudley said that exercise can mainly help extend life, may it be intensive or a simple walk every morning.

Get baseline testing

Mason and Dudley explained that testing the body’s genetic, microbiome and blood work could help monitor the body overtime. Baseline testing will provide the data that you can observe anytime to see changes, which may indicate improved health or developing health issues.

This will then help you determine a more effective care or treatment.
