Cadaver donation of 58-year-old patient helps bring new life to six families in Mumbai

In the first cadaver organ transplant conducted at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, the family of a 58-year-old patient, who died due to intra cranial bleeding, have decided to donate the patient’s heart, liver, kidneys and eyes to bring joy to six families on Tuesday.

Early Tuesday morning, the doctors at the Reliance Foundation hospital started the organ grafting procedure and by 10 am they were ready to shift the vital organs of the patient to various hospitals in the city.

A green corridor was created with the support of Mumbai police to transport the heart to Fortis Hospital, Mulund and the liver and one of the kidneys were transported to Global Hospital. While the other kidney was transplanted in the Reliance Foundation Hospital itself. The eyes were donated to the eye bank.

“The hospital is grateful to the family of the patient who took the bold step to donate vital organs and save six lives. We are hopeful that such an act of kindness will inspire more people to come ahead with cadaver donation which can save many lives,” said a hospital staff.
