Bhendi Bazaar building collapse: Maha govt to conduct an inquiry

Subhash Desai, Minister for Industries and Mining, Maharashtra informed that Maharashtra government will probe Bhendi Bazar building collapse incident and a meeting would be held with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to chalk out an action plan to rehabilitate those living in dilapidated buildings

On Thursday morning, a five-storey building, located at Pakmodia street near J.J. Hospital collapsed. As per the information available from hospital authorities and Mumbai Fire Brigade so far 16 brought dead and 14 are injured and rescue operation is on.

While talking to the press, Subhash Desai, Minister for Industries and Mining, Maharashtra said, “Our priority is to pull out those trapped under the rubble, at the earliest. Once the rescue work gets over, the government will conduct a probe to ascertain the factors behind the building collapse. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty.”

Desai further informed that the particular building was already marked for redevelopment as it was dilapidated. And a meeting will soon be held with the chief minister and an action plan will be prepared to rehabilitate those residing in such structures so that these incidents do not occur again.
