Bombay Ophthalmologists Association (BOA) Focus 2017 silver jubilee conference on Saturday, August 12 for the first time, introduced ‘Free papers’ award also known as Dr T P Lahane awards which were presented to the doctors for the exemplary work in the field of research.
Four preliminaries were conducted yesterday, by panel of judges which was headed by Dr Ranjit Maniar and the finals were conducted today.
Dr Deepak Sawant, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra presented the awards for the ‘Free papers’ that is (Dr TP Lahane award).
First award was given to Priyanka Singh, who secured 234/ 300 along with the cash price of 51,000. Second award was recieved by Mrutika Sen, who secured 233/300, along with the cash price of 31,000. Third award was given to Khushboo, who scored 232/300, along with the cash prize of 21,000.
While speaking with My Medical Mantra, First ‘Free papers’ award winner, Priyanka Singh, who is second year student from K J Somaiya Medical college, said, “A case had come to our hospital where a small baby had a problem of disoriented lens and imperfect vision. In majority of the cases, this happens because of genetic history, but there was no genetic history in this particular case.”
She added, “Our examination revealed that the child had develop this problem as his parents who belonged to the same family got married. So, in the conclusion I wrote that marriage within family can lead to such abnormalities in the vision.”
Apart from this, three consolation prizes were given to Priya Rai, Mayank and Priyanka Gandhi.
